Brownsburg Veterans Honored at Proclamation Reading
On Thursday, October 23, members of the American Legion Post [insert post number, if applicable] Executive Board and Post Commander were honored to attend the Brownsburg Town Council meeting as the Council read the official Veterans Day Proclamation.
It was a true honor to witness the Town’s recognition of all who have served in our nation’s armed forces. The proclamation serves as a meaningful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of our veterans, and the enduring gratitude of the Brownsburg community as we approach Veterans Day on November 11.Type your paragraph here.
Nicolas Phelps was honored on April 27th, 2026 with both the District and Department of Indiana awards for Government & Americanism. He achieved an outstanding score of 96%—the highest in both the District and Department. Nicolas is a 2025 Boys State graduate and a senior at Brownsburg High School.
Presenting the District award is our very own Bruce Curry, and the Department award was presented by Southern Vice Commander Kevin Hinton.
A huge congratulations to Nicolas on this incredible achievement!

Commander, American Legion Col. Billie J. Holmes Memorial Post #331
As I come to the close of my year serving as Commander of American Legion Col. Billie J. Holmes Memorial Post 331, I do so with a truly humble and grateful heart.
Being entrusted to serve as your first female commander is something I will always carry with me, but more than that, I am simply thankful to have stood alongside each of you this past year. This role was never about one person—it has always been about all of us, working together in service to something greater.
Our mission in the American Legion is clear: to support our veterans, their families, our communities, and our nation. When I reflect on this past year, I don’t just see events or accomplishments—I see that mission being lived out every single day. I see veterans helping veterans. I see families supporting one another. I see volunteers giving their time, energy, and heart without asking for recognition. That is what defines Post 331.
Carrying the name of Col. Billie J. Holmes reminds us of the standard we are called to uphold—a legacy of service, leadership, and selflessness. In so many ways, I believe this post honors that legacy not through words, but through action.
This year, we’ve grown—not just in numbers, but in spirit. We’ve welcomed new members into our Legion family, strengthened the bonds between our Legion, Auxiliary, Sons, and Riders, and continued to show what it means to work together as one team. Through community events, meals, ceremonies, outreach efforts, and countless acts of kindness—both seen and unseen—you have made a difference.
We’ve been there for our community. We’ve been there for our state. We’ve stood in support of our nation. But most importantly, we’ve remained committed to the root of our purpose—our veterans and their families. That commitment is what drives everything we do.
This year also brought moments of loss. We remember the members we’ve lost—men from all eras of service—who will never be forgotten. They were the backbone of this post, and their legacy is woven into who we are. It lives on in the stories we share, the traditions we carry forward, and in the very foundation—the bones—of this post. We honor them by continuing the work they believed in so deeply.
What makes this post so special is not recognition or rankings—it’s the people. It’s the veterans who continue to serve long after their time in uniform. It’s the families who stand beside them. It’s the volunteers who quietly step up, time and time again, to make sure the work gets done. It’s the compassion, the respect, and the willingness to help anyone in need.
I have watched many of you go out of your way to lift others up, often without ever seeking acknowledgment. That quiet dedication is what truly sets this post apart and why others look to Post 331 as an example of what the American Legion should be.
I am incredibly proud of what has been accomplished this year—but I am even more grateful for the people who made it possible. None of this was done alone, and none of it could have been done without all of you.
As I step into the role of past commander, I want you to know I am not gone. While I take time to heal from upcoming surgeries, I will still be around this post wherever I am needed—supporting your new commander, our board, and continuing to lend my voice and support to ensure our continued success. This post is home, and I will always stand beside you.
Thank you for your trust, your support, and your guidance throughout this year. Thank you for allowing me to serve beside you, learn from you, and represent this post.
It has truly been an honor.
With my deepest respect and gratitude,
Thank you.
For God and Country,
Sincerely,
Angel Marie Faulkner
